THE FULL STORY

The club was founded by Jimmy Brown, Des Beresford and committed parents in the year 2000, and was named St. Philips Juniors. This name reflected the long term aim to create a feeder structure for the adult team which played much of its football in the Avon and Bristol Premier Combination League. Our progress, as with other initiatives in the inner city, has developed in fits and starts. What has not changed is the desire for young people living in the inner city to have access to playing competitive football for a club which is in their area.

Derek Scale has been at the heart of driving forward the club under the Bristol Central Youth brand, utilising his wealth of experience in the game and contacts in the footballing world to progress the club. There is a hefty list of volunteers who have committed their time and expertise to grow the football club. Some personnel still active at the club have been involved for over 10 years.

The club are proud of its alumni (ex-players who you can see in the "About" section), who have gone on to represent professional clubs, including the Premier League and even full international teams.

In recent years, the club's size has grown exponentially; we now field teams in every age group from Under 7 right through to Under 21. Some age groups have multiple teams to reflect demand - though it seems we are constantly adding more! We have around 40 staff, consisting of coaches, parent co-ordinators, safeguarding, child welfare, community liaison and more.

We still have links with adult clubs who are based locally in the area. We aim to be a multi ethnic club with a culturally diverse membership – again reflecting the richness of the inner city.
