Our Histrory

The club was founded by Jimmy Brown, Des Beresford and committed parents in the year 2000, and was named St. Philips Juniors. This name reflected the long term aim to create a feeder structure for the adult team which played much of its football in the Avon and Bristol Premier Combination League.

Our progress, as with other initiatives in the inner city, has developed in fits and starts. What has not changed is the desire for young people living in the inner city to have access to playing competitive football for a club which is in their area.

Derek Scale has been at the heart of driving forward the club under the Bristol Central Youth brand, utilising his wealth of experience in the game and contacts in the footballing world to progress the club. There is a hefty list of volunteers who have committed their time and expertise to grow the football club. Some personnel still active at the club have been involved for over 10 years.

The Present

Bristol Central youth football club is thriving with a vibrant community spirit and a robust infrastructure. Currently, boasting 14 teams across 12 age groups ranging from under 6 to under 18 delivering weekly football coaching sessions. Our club has become a beacon of inclusivity and opportunity for local youth. Notably, the addition of girls' football teams underscores the club's commitment to gender equality in sports.

Beyond competitive matches, the club offers development sessions aimed at honing skills and fostering personal growth. With over 50 dedicated volunteers, including coaches, parent coordinators, and committee members, the club operates like a well-oiled machine, ensuring smooth coordination of activities and events.

Regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions and youth workshops contribute to the ongoing development of both players and volunteers alike. Moreover, the club hosts a variety of engaging events, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie within the community. Overall, the current status of the inner city youth football club exemplifies its dedication to nurturing talent, promoting diversity, and instilling values of teamwork and sportsmanship among its members.

The Future

Looking ahead, Bristol Central youth football club aspires to achieve several milestones that reflect our commitment to growth, inclusivity, and sustainability:

  • Establishing a Club Home

    • We envision securing a dedicated facility that serves as our club's home ground, providing a central hub for training, matches, and community events. We want to work with funding bodies, local business to support our clubs growth and development to build a legacy for our young people in our community.

  • Introducing Youth Mentorship

    • Initiative is designed to be a transformative experience, equipping young athletes with the skills, support, and confidence they need to excel in football and life. Through dedicated mentorship, the club aims to nurture well-rounded individuals who will become leaders both on the field and in their communities.

  • Creating an Adult Football Pathway

    • To support the continued development of our players beyond their youth years, we plan to establish pathways into adult football leagues, fostering a seamless transition for those who wish to pursue their passion for the sport into adulthood.

  • Enhancing our Club Committee Roles

    • We seek to expand and refine our committee roles, empowering volunteers with diverse skill sets to contribute meaningfully to the club's operations and strategic direction.
